WHAT IS GERD AND HOW TO FIGHT IT?
Some food types are generally referred to as ‘male’; these include wings, steaks and ribs. These goodies won’t taste the same to men if it wasn’t for the nice cold beer.
Unfortunately, the foods and beverages men most strongly desire are also those likely to cause GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). To put it in plain words, it is a disorder that causes acid reflux and heartburn.
Reducing the consumption of spicy and fatty foods, as well as alcohol, can free you from the need to cope with the unpleasant sensations they typically produce in your chest and throat later in the night. You will certainly be tempted by these delectables from time to time.
So, you’d better have some preventive measures available. GERD manifestations can become less frequent if you lose weight. Obese or overweight people are at greater risk of the gastroesophageal condition.
Another factor contributing negatively to GERD is smoking. Smoking makes it difficult for the lower esophageal sphincter to perform its functions the right way, so giving the cigarettes up can actually make you feel more comfortable after eating.
Here’s what you can also do: put on loose clothes, avoid lying down right after a meal and raise the head of your bed.
